  • Well, the trip out the the Kearney Wrestling Invite was an interesting one, 130 miles of bad road, at about 40 mph...

But it was a good meet, although it was long. Started at 10 am, Allen finished his last match at 3, and they didn't leave as a group until about 8 pm...he won two of three... he pinned both his wins, and the kid who got him didn't pin him.

Roads were clear by the return trip, so at least we weren't facing it at night.....

  • Managed to find anothe 79 Camaro Berlinetta, and took a few pics. Told Kyle I found his hood scoop....

Then I was in Beatrice and found a GMC Sprint that was nearly identical to Allen's El Camino...

Then we went past a salvage yard, found a gigantic engine, 18 cylinders, horizontally opposed, twin crankshafts, it was out of a railroad freight locomotive....

One of the crankshafts was cut, and the flywheel was there, I laid a quarter on  top of it for perspective...the flywheel was larger than a truck tire....

I managed to get one of the pistons and brought it home for a display, larger than a gallon paint can, and so heavy I could barely get it in the Explorer....

  • Headed into Lincoln in a bit, work in WB storage all day (or most of it) go shopping with the boys tonight, get something for their Mom for her BD tomorrow....I will probably send her flowers at work in the names of the kids, I got her a sub to Nebraskaland for her BD, always do. Had a nice weekend working with the Scout Sat am on Auto Mechanics, did a lot. Got the Explorer and the Lumina both buffed and waxed, and winterized all the cars. Fabricated a choke plate for the Camaro. Will try to do a bit more on the Garage this AM before heading into town, even if it is only unpacking one box, I will chip away at it. Went into Walmart Saturday night and got antifreeze and carb cleaner, some shoes and groceries, you can sure go through $125 in a hurry. Came home and typed up the report from Friday, then Allen came out and we watched a movie til way late. He went to the Nebraska Game, then the Southwest Game, so had his fill of football. We went into church Sunday, late as usual, but it was a good service, both of them...Anita dropped off Kyle at our place at 1:30, he had a great weekend in KC, won the Sunday morning game with a diving header into the goal...he played Goalee first half of both Saturday games, and midfield then attacker the other parts....we ate lunch and headed for Curt's, pulled that Honda back. They sure have a bunch of cute kitties down there. Dropped the Honda off at Dennis', see what he can do with it. Kyle and I went out and got the Camaro started, found a freeze plug leaking, so will check with Dennis about installing a new one...you really need a hoist for that, so...they can be a real challenge. But the motor sounded good. Now to get a new throttle cable for it, and the automatic choke spring assembly. Keep plugging away at it. We need to find door panels, start working on wiring under the dash, etc. Find  a headliner, hopefully snag a used windshield, etc. Have to watch the $$ here too, not much coming in lately from Inspections, Christmas right around the corner, and we still need spending $$ for England...My house Ins is due the 9th, $500... plus the house payment. I need some Insps to pay off right quick....I sent out a few emails this morning, checking on the status of some of the older ones...will have to make a few calls I guess. There might be something in the mail, haven't checked it since Thursday and Friday was the holiday...Cloudy and cold here today, got down to 28 last night. Supposed to be 50's all week, low 30's. I can live with that. Starts getting colder I'll have to turn the furnace on in the trailer.....really have to work on getting that rented out...perhaps I can put together a flyer this week, get it over to Bennet and the area churches....want to contact Mr. Zoz and see about hunting ground too, blackpowder coming up. Sure were a lot of hunters out this weekend, pheasent and hi-power deer. Getting a lot of requests for Hunters Safety Class, will check at the Lodge tomorrow, see what weekends are available...Saturday is 2 Scouts Eagle ceremonies... I know Allen wants to go to Southwest playoff for State, but this is more important. Josh Brown from our Troop, Allen and Kyle are Honor Guards...tonight at Scouts is Auto Mechanics MB class, I think I can finish the book reequirements, and one more work day will cover it. Now if I can get all the boys there to do it....that is the biggest challenge. Plus Ryan volunteering his Garage, then not being available Saturdays because of deer season. I understand, but still, when you make a commitment....First day of wrestling for Allen, and Kyle has Tennis Lesson tonight til 5:30, Anita to bring him to Godfathers for pizza. Well, best quit and go feed Willie, head into town. Hopefully the bulk of the week I can work out here, want to mow the pasture, get all the cockle burrs cut down. Keep after the Garage, and the basement, work on the deck as the weather is good enough. Always something...later....

  • Well, sadly, we are less 1 member of our family this weekend. One of our kitties got in the way of a tire when we were moving a car Sunday night. Never knew what hit her. She was always terrible about looking out for cars, miracle she lasted this long. But still very sad. So she is buried by the plum thicket, near Buzz, who we lost 3 years ago. Wisp was a member of our family from about spring 2001, when she strayed in and adopted us. A very funny and affectionate cat, she always wanted to "help", and be right there with us. Even when we went hunting, she would tag along. She loved to play with weeds or a string, even tho she couldnt see very well. We figured out she could see movement, but maybe not be able to focus on small objects. She struggled terribly with allergies, and was a long haired cat that should have been a short hair. She didn't do well grooming, and in the spring we would wind up cutting clumps of fur off her, she would get exema, and have a heck of a time. At least now she is in a place where her skin won't bother her, or struggle with breathing or allergies. Fortunately she didn't suffer long, perhaps 45 seconds from when she got hit to when she was still.  The boys are still reeling from it, taking it very hard. We all love our kitties a lot, and each of them has such a neat personality. They are truly members of our family, and it is hard to have to say goodbye to one. But in the spring we will plant some iris on her grave, and she will not be forgotten....

    We love you Wisp....

  • Allen's Senior Pics turned out well, hard to believe he will graduate High School in the spring, sure doesn't seem ready for it...went to his Wrestling club cookout tonight, took some jalapeno pepper and cheese summer sausage, and also some deer sticks...that was immensely popular, went quickly.

Spent a long day working on Inspection reports, getting caught up. Spent nearly the entire day on it, not what I had planned....and in the morning supposed to go see Kyle's Tennis tournament at East....at 8:15... so much for working on the Honda and finishing it up... then I have another commitment at 4, for the rest of the evening. I don't mind spending the time, but the timing is terrible. Kyle has a soccer game in Blair on Sunday, I have no idea what time that is, but likely to interfere with Church. Always something. When am I supposed to finish this car, or get moving on the truck, etc? When do I finish the Garage ceiling, move stuff into that, get things so I can work on the deck, move forward on the house? And here I am considering driving semi, which would take me away from here even more...sometimes I wonder if I will ever get it all done...

Watch the 10 pm news in a few, then to bed. Sunday evening hope to watch "Duel" with the boys. I hope they enjoy that as much as I did.... they enjoyed watching "The Night that panicked America", neat movie on the making of the War of the Worlds Radio broadcast in 1938, sent that down to Maureen today, she should get it Tuesday....she headed for KC for the weekend for the Renaissance Festival, hope she has a nice time... next weekend she is headed for Texas with Tyler....sure am glad he is riding shotgun with her. Not good to be driving alone down there, especially if the car decides to break down...then the next weekend she plans to be here for NSBA contests....a lot of traveling, but it will be good to see her.....got the D-T's pics posted on the Diamond T website....sure looks good there.....later....
