  • Hood scoop looks nice, shame it was broken on arrival. I was not pleased...took one month to the day to arrive after purchase - ridiculous...

    100_1852

wound up having to patch both rear corners...

    100_1853

    100_1854

finally got the bondo work done, sanded, ready for primer... took two hours to get it primered...

    100_1855

primer was miserable to shoot. High solids, took 15 minutes to stir it in the gallon enough to liquify it. That stuff was so thick it would barely shoot. I had to use 70 lbs of pressure, open the feed all the way and it still barely shot. If I would have had a HVLP gun I would never have gotten it on the car...

    100_1856

only found two runs, minor ones that should be easy to sand out...started to sprinkle (of course) as I was halfway through, I don't think it will be too big an issue. It flashed so fast I could hardly get it on the car, and that was with slow reducer...if I would have tried fast it would have been dry coming out of the gun.... should wet sand with 400 real nice....now to get Kyle to finally decide on a color combination so I can get that bought, and hopefully on the car...

    100_1857

see if I can get it to Adams to the paint booth, or wind up doing it here in the drive... sure hope that color coat goes on better than the primer, or I am screwed...Applejack car show next Sunday, I am having my doubts about getting it ready...trying to schedule two days off this week to work on it, but getting pressure to do Inspections...going to be tough to get time to shoot, and get it down there, make arrangements for the booth, and all that. Next Saturday is an option, but we are supposed to go to Indian Caves for a campout... I know Kyle is not real wild about that anyway, and I don't know what his soccer/tennis schedule is....sure hope they can both make the Sunday car show, since I registered them for it. I think Allen would really enjoy having Kyle participate with him in it....I had hoped to have the Volvo ready, but that was a joke, haven't laid a wrench on it...hopefully get the Camaro done...supposed to get the D-T brake cylinders back this weekend...that would be nice.... I would like to get the brakes back together, get the other side jacked up and torn down, wheel cylinder in to be rebuilt...nice to have it done before winter, but I wonder....

  • Nice little stripe job on this older Nova...white roof looks good on this car...

    100_1849

and I saw this running down the street....

    100_1850

    Chrysler, I think. about '36 or '37....

Got the hood scoop for the Camaro today, took them long enough to get it here, then the dumb thing has a broken corner. I can repair it, but frustrating to wait so long only to have it damaged. And no damage to the box, so it had to happen before it was shipped. Well packed, so it didn't happen in transit... at least I can get it laid out and installed, get ready for paint finally.

Hope to work on it again tonight, and Friday afternoon, sure would like to at least get primer on it. Saturday will be football game, I love it, but timing is bad. Going to schedule light for next week so I can get this painted before the weekend...

now off to Wilber for an Inspection, then to Lincoln for another.....laters...

  • Saw this sweet little Chevy the other day...

    100_1845

very nice... makes me want to have the Volvo or the T-bird done...

  •   Long day, didn't turn out quite like I'd planned....first I had to catch up on typing Inspection reports, started at 6 am and got done at noon. Then decided to take them to the Title Co's, only because about 4 people called wanting them already. So I decided to take the Yamaha and deliver them. Rode to Beatrice, discovered that my "reserve" tank will take me about three blocks...Thank God I wasn't out on the highway. I got a whopping 30 mpg. I can do better with the little blue car! Went to Lincoln and delivered the others, stopped past  the P.O. and picked up a check. Stopped past the bank on the way home. So that was a fun road trip. Definitely need to get back brake pads for it tho. And I have an oil leak to deal with. Always something, but at least I am getting familiar with it. Started in on Kyle's Camaro sanding and bodywork again, ran into the hood  from hell. 5 layers of paint on that thing, two of them epoxy...120 grit on my disc sander wouldn't touch it. Neither would 80 grit. I went through about 5 - 36 grit discs. Unreal.  I haven't used a 36 grit disc in years, surprised I still had them. Worked on that hood for three hours, still don't have it completely stripped. Will tackle it again in the morning...

    100_1846

This was not even half way through, you can see all the layers. Greys are epoxy.

I wound up getting the air compressor and blowing the paint dust off the hood several times, it was so thick...

    100_1847

this was about 30 mins into it...I bet if I would have swept it up I would have had over 2 cups...ridiculous. Finally gave up when it turned dark, came in and tuned up my new mandolin...sounds pretty good. Sure reminds me how out of practice I am...want to plug it in pretty quick, see how it sounds through an amp... tomorrow volunteer at the football game, then to Barry's for the after game show, Average Joe's band is playing, and I want to treat myself to them...Sunday I will head to York and see Kyle play in his soccer games. Monday will be a day on the Camaro again, try to get the bodywork finished and primed. Hopefully I will make better progress than I did today. Now to head downstairs and put another coat of sheetrock mud on the walls....

  • Been a good day so far, but got started late. Sent a box off to Winry with radio gear inside....Con comm, anyone? Stopped past O'Reilly and picked up tune-up parts for the Wagoneer, stopped in at Menards and found a pressure washer on sale, with degreaser, for under $80 with tax. Couldn't pass that up. So came home and started the smoker, got the hickory chips soaking, and loaded in the turkey.  Sat it in the edge of the double Garage door, and shut the door to keep the draft down. Cats are going nuts with the smell. Power washed the Wagoneer engine, and part of the D-T engine as well. Works nice. Strong enough to cut grease and such, but not enough to peel paint....a good thing...worked over the battery in the new Explorer, whilst jumping the Wagoneer I discovered a bad ground connection....so....got that done and started in on the Wagoneer; new plugs, cap, rotor. Had new wires, but the wires on it are recent, so they can go back to the store. Did a compression check, every cylinder had 120lbs. Can't ask for better than that. The lady told me they had rebuilt the engine not too long before they quit driving it. I believe it. I think I will wind up putting valve cover gaskets on it, but no big deal. Threw a new set of plugs in it, and will get a new battery tomorrow for it. Now to get underneath and check the steering, see what is so loose. I noticed it had a steering stabilizer, so was a bit surprised at how loose it is. Probably an idler arm or something. Then to check the brakes, etc. Need to pull the left rear door apart and see which electric motor it takes. Might as well swap it out, I think they are about $50. Then get it into the trans shop, get seals in it, new gaskets on the pan, and have them check out the Quadra-Trac. That will tell the story. For now, time to start on the Camaro body again, try to get the new metal welded in the fenders and the bondo done. Too humid to paint primer today.  Finish taping off the windshield and such, get it ready for primer.  Then on to the basement if I have any energy left, tackle that again. I have to get some of it done, especially if I buy that corn furnace and install it. Which I am strongly considering. Checked with the co-op in Bennet, they will unload it off the semi and load it on my pickup for no charge, and they will sell me corn for $2 a bushel. Figure that thing should burn about 200 bushel in a season, which is only $400 for heat for the winter....compared to $120 a month average on propane right now....well, best get after it...

  • You don't see this every day. Auto transporter...had a nice little '63 Mecury Comet convertible on the top rear rack...

  • Time for a quick update. Saw this Firebird in Beatrice the other day...about the same year as Kyle's Camaro. Nice hood.

August 20, 2006

  • Update on the Camaro, we are making progress, on the body work and prep, and some pics of interior.

and of course we had helpers...

    rear seats look good...

door panels, front seats, carpeting looking good...

new headliner, new windshield, tinted side windows...

front speaker wires waiting for a stereo to attach to......

hopefully to be painted this week.

  • Well, here is the new addition to the car lot...

an '82 Wagoneer, 132k miles, 360 V-8, Auto, Quadra-trac. Power everything. Needs a tune up, A/C charged, one power window motor, window weatherstripping, and the front seats reupholstered. Has 4 new tires and a new exhaust. Might sell the little blue car and keep this.

  • These old country roads can get you... a little rain and a soft spot or two.... and even an experienced driver can get caught.....

    definitely rearranged the rear axle...
