  • Car show was fun, although we got there late. Should have been there by 8:30, but didn't make it til 10, and we wound up three blocks away...oh well, hopefully it will make an impression on them for next year...lots of nice comments on the El Camino and the Camaro. Both boys had a good time all day. Slices of pie mysteriously kept appearing in the back fo the El Camino...seems our relatives were trying to feed us...there were 158 cars there. I will post pics soon...

  • And wouldn't you know, the day before the show, Allen gets in an accident. Some lady turned into him... minor damage, but still....

    100_1896

fortunately she had insurance, but trying to find a rubber strip for that front bumper will be a treat. I did temporarily glue it, and buffed out the scuffs, so it at least looks a little better...always something.

And now I have lost my cell phone...can't find the dumb thing anywhere... be my luck I left it at Walmart, and will have to make a trip back in there....sheesh...

  • Finally about ready for the show. Got the headlights in and aligned,  license plates and escutcheons on, mudflaps, etc.  Aside from reinstalling the rear seat, and setting the speakers in the rear deck, it is pretty well ready to go. I have to reattach the gauges temporarily. Stereo is just going to have to wait. I know Kyle won't mind. I am looking forward to going down and enjoying the day tomorrow.

    Hood Scoop turned out nice...

  • Managed to get the clear coat shot. Sadly, I only bought one quart of hardener, which limited me to two coats. But, two coats are enough to make it work. Just wish I'd have had the other quart, then I could have shot the whole gallon on there. Oh well. Turned out  pretty nice, except the occasional hair and dust speck. But to be expected given the situation. I probably should have moved it down and used the paint booth, but I just didn't have enough time. Still looks really good, especially from a couple feet away. Pulled the masking paper and tape, and all of the tape gum stayed on the trim, so I have at least three hours of cleaning to do. Then to try to get the scoop on, and start in on speakers, console and so on. At least it will be driveable for the show, so even if the stereo isn't done, no matter. Looks really nice, and will look better with the tires shined up and windows cleaned. Paint will harden by morning. That was the other mistake, I bought slow hardener, instead of medium or fast. I was thinking reducer...oh well....

  • Had to shut the Garage to keep the cats out and off the fresh paint, so not able to take the best of pics...cats were NOT happy....pulled the tape and looking the stripes over....

    100_1887

    so far so good...

    100_1888

    front end looking pretty good...

    100_1889

    trunk looking good as well....

    100_1890

    roof looking pretty good too....

    100_1891

Rear end looking good too. Next to get the overspray figured out, then shoot clear coat. Let it set a few hours, pull tape, and let it harden overnight. So the cats get to go "camping" another night. Won't they be thrilled...then Sat am I can start reassembling lights, trim, etc. Figure out the hood scoop, then tackle center console, stereo and speakers...all while babying the fresh paint and 6 mad cats...

  • Now we start shooting paint....hood scoop looking very white...

    100_1881

hood and front end looking good so far....

    100_1882

we decided to leave the grille black....
